Midnight #1
Jenny came to town one day
The Madness sent her on her way;
From high atop his lonely crag
He stood and watched a burning flag.
Far she walked into the night
And reached her home at earliest light;
Holding still the thing she'd lost
As cold as grass encased in frost.
Regret is poison, seems an end;
Brother to The Madness, friend -
The emptiness he's known before
This room of his with unmarked door.
Jenny takes the pieces out
And shards of it are strewn about;
She makes a necklace, blue and green
With bits of nothing in-between.
A voice rolls deep across the night
A drumroll from an ancient height:
Behold a girl of kindness true
Behold she wants to dance with you.
Now desperate like a shooting star
The Madness seeks a door ajar
Abandoning his unlit throne
Before The Madness turns to stone.
Beholds a girl of kindness true
Moves in to get a closer view
He kisses her, and does again
And finds that this is not the end.
